26 Poses Designed to Make Your Engagement & Wedding Photos Remarkable

Hello everyone and welcome to the list of the Top 26 Poses! In this list of photos we have created with our couples, we will be discussing some of our favorite poses we believe every bride and groom should see at least once before their photos are taken.

The poses we've shared in this Top 26 list can happen at any moment of our photoshoots with couples, but we've found a photoshoot may often resemble the stages of a relationship. For couples who aren't used to being in front of a camera, it might start out a bit formal. Then as time goes by and comfort zones form, it advances to friendly banter and fun, and eventually warms up to some of the more passionate, playful, epic moments of love. Each couple's photoshoot is unique and our desire is to help you get to the place you want to be so your photos show the trust, passion, and romance in your relationship that has grown between the two of you to where you are in this moment. It's truly a work of passion for us, as well as artistic storytelling.

More than just a shot list. This list is designed to help you understand what you want from your photos.

Top 26 Poses

Follow Me Away

"Follow Me Away" is one of our favorite storytelling action shots. It's totally interchangeable with varying angles, allowing us to capture a feeling of timelessness, give and take, and adventure. It has a way of prompting the question, "What’s to come?"

The Cradle

What says romance more than jumping into your loved one’s arms? This pose is very fitting for the epic conclusion of a love story! All that is left to do is walk off into the distance…

Playful Candids

Candid shots are pure, joyful, and true to your relationship. As your photographers it is one of our primary goals to capture these timeless shots. It all starts from getting to know you two and creating an environment full of excitement, passion, and fun...prompting easy and beautiful candid interaction.

Distant Face to Face

Its quite simple really…you find two walls or objects facing each other and lean against them. This could be an alley way, trees, columns, cars, etc etc etc. This photo gives an opportunity to showcase the location you are in with a wider shot, setting a cinematic scene and once again aiding to the story telling of the day.

The Ballroom Embrace

Delicate, loving, caring…the ballroom embrace is an elegant pose, designed to showcase the love and connection between two people who are beginning the rest of their lives together.

The Sweeping Veil

The veil is a timeless piece of the bride’s attire. It adds motion to those beautiful, candidly posed shots.

The Almost Kiss

Cute and playful, the almost kiss represents delicate, beautiful emotions of pure happiness. It is a very romantic pose that can be happy and smiley, like the above photo, or sensual and passionate.

The “WE DID IT” Kiss

The first kiss looked great! But what about the second? This shot feels candid every time, and immerses you in the crowd of those who love you and came to support you. We want you to be in the moment and the last thing you need to be doing is thinking about posing for a photo during your ceremony, but its ok to plan and keep in mind the shots you REALLY want. Collaborate with us and together we will make it happen in the most natural manner.

Calm Embrace

When you're wrapped in the loving arms of your significant other, it feels like time stands still. While all photos capture a moment, some poses and images convey such depth that they create the illusion of time freezing altogether.

Editorial Elegance

Envision yourself on the front cover of Vouge, showcasing the beauty of your dress and the elegance you embody. Our history in the world of fashion photography has instilled a strong passion for shots such as these and we are more than happy to help when it comes to posing.

The Dip

The Dip! This is our favorite pose! If we find ourselves in a new, picturesque location…this is our go to. It is a playful but still, romantic pose. The mood can shift heavily, from a happy smile, to a passionate kiss. There are a few simple mechanics that make this pose a breeze and we are of course happy to share.

Forehead to Forehead

There are a variety of different shots you can capture with forehead to forehead. This one in particular places the bouquet as the foreground and leads into the bride’s happy expression. Wrapping the veil back around the groom’s arms further emphasizes the union these two now share. This pose translates the feeling of admiration shared between the bride and groom.

Leaning Into Your Partner

Editorial and yet still clearly symbolizing care and trust. This pose can be tweaked here and there to completely change the look and feel. The groom could kiss the bride on the temple or cheek, the couple could look at each other and laugh, an eskimo kiss (nose kisses) may be in order…whatever the vibe may be, this is one of our favorite poses and always adds great variety to a story-telling gallery.

Focusing on Each Other

Focusing on each other allows you to slow down for a moment and take it all in. This pose can be dramatic and romantic, or light and smiley. Your photographer will work their magic and direct if necessary but what is important is that you look at your loved one and enjoy the moment.

The Veil Toss

Abracadabra! It floats! The veil toss is an age old shot that does a phenomenal job of showcasing every inch of the Bride’s wardrobe. If the wind is strong it really will fly like magic, but the toss is always there to save the day no matter what.

The Ring

It all starts with a question, shortly followed by a presentation of the ring. Now to be worn for the rest of your life as a symbol of love, your ring is a part of you. Capturing details such as these truly enhances the story telling ability your wedding photos will have. If detail shots are important to you, ask you photographer if they do, or will focus on it. Certain shots also require specific equipment, so make sure everyone is prepared to capture exactly what you are looking for!

The Ballroom Dip

Candidly posed...the ballroom embrace is an intimate, romantic shot that is proven to work in any condition! Letting the hair fly, showcasing that beautiful bouquet, and expressing the love shared between you and your partner with a passionate embrace. A shot deserving of a magazine cover...in fact, this shot in particular and others alike ended up on magazine covers as they match the editorial aesthetic magazines love.

A Distant Stroll

Get away from the noise and take a stroll with your new life partner. This shot is a wonderful way to encapsulate the scene you are in. A good mix of wide, medium, and tight shots will tell your story seamlessly, without missing a single detail, allowing you to look back on your day and remember it in its fullest glory!

Running Towards the Camera

Frolicking through the field as recently engaged or newlyweds is a great way to let loose and have some fun! We have found that looking at each other creates the best, most meaningful shots when running!

Throwing the Dress

Brides! You have waited to wear this dress for years! Lets get some awesome shots of it shall we! This is certainly a more high fashion look, but it can be as tailored to your personality as you want it to be. If you want editorial and vogue, great! If you want fun and playful, fantastic! If you want dreamy and candid, lets do it! This is one of our favorite shots to work on with our brides. Everyone has a blast and the brides get to remember their dress in all of its glory!

Lift of Love

The lift of love is a playful, yet romantic, candid pose that can be captured from a wide or tight angle. Don’t overthink this one, just grab your loved one and have some fun!

Romantic Bear Hug

The bear hug can be a powerfully romantic pose when love is in the air. We aren’t talking about that prom photo that haunts your dreams…we are talking about you and your loved one embracing each other’s love.

Carry Me Away

If you’re feeling adventurous…climb up onto your loved one and take a ride! Gentlemen, this is a great way to keep your bride clean and dry if you need to cross treacherous terrain. And its a lot of fun!

Staggered

Staggering the couple not only gives the photo a bit more depth, it also creates a clear union between two people. Looking off into the distance or at the camera is a great option for this shot.

Swords!

Full Disclosure…We are creative nerds, and The Lord of the Rings in particular is a story that has given us a great deal of inspiration. These two swords belong to Aragorn & Arwen in the story of The Lord of the Rings and represent the love shared between them. We are happy to bring them for your engagement or wedding for some fun shots! Cloaks as well!

P.S. we have a huge wardrobe of outfits and props so just let us know if you are interested :)
